Documentary Searches The "Us" Written By Jailed Turkish Journalist
A documentary by jailed Editor-in-Chief of daily Cumhuriyet Can Dündar and veteran journalists Nebil Özgentürk and Coşkun Aral is set to tell stories of Turkey's multiple cultures and identities. The three journalists were traveling across Turkey to prepare a documentary entitled "Travelers of Culture in Havana – Three men on Track of Three Artists" before Dündar was imprisoned. After long journeys across different points of Turkey, from Balkans to Van, Diyarbakır to Istanbul, veteran journalists Dünar, Özgentürk and Aral have been tracking cultures, identities and the "us". Within a documentary series with 11 episodes, the work has also searched the traces of three artists, Nazım Hikmet, Ernest Hemingway and Alberto Korsa in Cuba, in September 2015. Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet has headed to Cuba and met authors and artists in Havana, where he stayed for two months. Stories of Hemingway, who has worked as war reporter in Istanbul in his youth, were searched in restaurants, in the house where he stayed in Cuba, as well as the fishing town, which has also inspired his renowned novel entitled "The Old Man and the Sea". The documentary also included Coşkun Aral's interview with photographer Alberto Korda.
